Walaaybaa
Ranger Program
With a strong connection to community, Gomeroi culture, and Country, the Walaaybaa Ranger program presents an exciting opportunity for organisations and groups looking for local and reliable land management services, education and support with Reconciliation Action Plan outcomes.
The Walaaybaa rangers offer land management services that incorporate cultural knowledge to ensure Country is managed respectfully and sustainably.
Using both traditional ecological knowledge and contemporary land management strategies, our rangers offer reliable conservation land management and maintenance services, from right way burning to ecological restoration and habitat enhancement. The Walaaybaa rangers can develop and facilitate programs focussed on sharing knowledge of sustainable and cultural land management practices with the wider community.
Experts in caring for Country, Walaaybaa Ranger Program – A Tamworth Local Aboriginal Land Council service is focussed on long-term solutions, and Caring for Country across areas including:
GENERAL CONSERVATION LAND MANAGEMENT AND CULTURAL ASSET MANAGEMENT
Using Aboriginal wisdom and modern knowledge, the rangers offer management and stewardship of the natural landscape, ecosystems, wildlife, Aboriginal cultural sites and artefacts, for the preservation and protection of Country.
CULTURAL ASSET PROTECTION, SURVEY AND IDENTIFICATION
Through fencing, fuel reduction and erosion management, the rangers safeguard cultural assets from a variety of threats. These practices include providing physical protection to environmental or cultural features, reducing bushfire risk, providing fencing to keep pests out, and deploying erosion control structures.
CULTURAL BURNING – RIGHT WAY FIRE, WORKING WITH FIRE DEMONSTRATIONS AND WORKSHOPS
So much more than fire management, cultural burning is about maintaining the connection between people, the land, and cultural identity – with benefits for biodiversity conservation, fire mitigation, and cultural significance. Through workshops and training sessions, the rangers offer valuable knowledge sharing with participants and the community.
RIVER AND WATERWAY REMEDIATION – REVEGETATION, EROSION CONTROL AND MANAGEMENT
Through revegetation efforts, erosion control measures and strategic management practices, our rangers work tirelessly to enhance the health and resilience of these vital ecosystems. By addressing issues such as sedimentation, pollution and habitat degradation, we contribute to the long-term sustainability of our water systems.
PEST AND WEED MANAGEMENT – NATURAL AREA RESTORATION AND IMPROVEMENT
REVEGETATION, AND REMEDIATION WORKS – PLANTING, WILDLIFE CORRIDOR CREATION AND HABITAT AUGMENTATION
Working to enhance the quality and availability of habitats of wildlife populations, such as through building nest boxes and hollows, the rangers restore and improve natural areas. This may include rehabilitating and restoring degraded or damaged natural ecosystems by planting vegetation, creating wetlands, or increasing food sources for native species.
NURSERY WORKS, NATIVE PLANT PROPAGATION AND REVEGETATION
The rangers offer tubestock ordering and delivery, planting and seeding to maintain and support vegetation in sensitive natural ecosystems, improving the health of the land.
With a strong connection to community, Aboriginal culture, and the land, the Walaaybaa Rangers program presents an exciting opportunity for organisations and groups looking for reliable land management services, education and implementation of a Reconciliation Action Plan.
