Connector
The Community Connector initiative is led by the Coalition of Aboriginal Peak Organisations (CAPO) as part of the Premier’s Priority on Aboriginal Education and Culture in partnership with the Department of Education and Premier and Cabinet.
The Priority aims to increase the proportion of Aboriginal students attaining their HSC by 50% by 2023, while maintaining their cultural identity.
The Connector will work with Aboriginal students in Year 11 and 12 for 2023, supporting them to be culturally strong and remain engaged at school.
How does the Community Connector work?
- Meets with students at school, in their home, or anywhere else they feel comfortable to have a chat
- Talks to students about their passions and goals, and some of the challenges they may be experiencing at school or in their life that keep them from engaging in education
- Works with students and their family to develop a tailored plan that helps students address the challenges they are experiencing so they can reach their goals
- Builds students’ confidence and cultural connections so they have a strong foundation to realise their potential in education and in life.
Community Connector can assist students by:
- Connecting students with people and services in the community who, working together, will:
- Support students to advance their educational and broader goals
- Help students tackle challenges they may be facing at school or in life
- Connect students with cultural activities and opportunities so they can become a leader in the community
